Belgium has a long and rich history when it comes to gambling. From horse betting, to slot machines, roulette tables, lotteries and online casinos – Belgium has always been at the forefront of gambling innovations. As one of the first countries in Europe to legalize casino gaming for international tourists back in 1894; Belgium’s love affair with gambling is well documented. And as one of the most popular destinations in Europe for many years now, tourism plays an important role in their economy. With that said, there are some things you should know before heading over there!
The Gambling commission (Commissie voor de Coördinatie van het Wettelijk Toezicht op de Georganiseerde Kansspelen) is a government agency that oversees regulation of gambling. The commission was founded in 2012 and has been responsible for overseeing the evolution of Belgium’s online gaming industry. It's important to note that they are different from the Belgian Gaming Commission (BGC).
